College Admissions Counseling Programs

The Prometheus Tutors College Counseling Program is flexible and effective. A comprehensive program usually  consists of 10-12 meetings, which are supported via e-mail and phone communications. The meetings cover the following topics, where the student and counselor are both given assignments to work on, in-between meetings. Although no two sequences are identical, here is an example of a six-meeting sequence:

    Program Overview, Getting to Know Each Other, Preliminary Self-Assessment & Goals, The Road Ahead
  2. Test Prep & College Research:
    Test Prep, Terms and Concepts, College Research & List, Resources, Goal Setting, College Discernment
  3. College Visits:
    The Admissions Process, College Visit Prep, Special Circumstances (Athletics, Arts, Special Needs, etc.), Further Goal Setting & College Discernment
  4. Interviews & Essays:
    College Interview, Video-Recorded Mock Interview, College Application Essays, Further Goal Setting & College Discernment
  5. Applications, Financial Aid, & Mock Interview:
    Application Mechanics, Financial Aid Mechanics, Guidance Counselor/Teacher Recommendations, Tests and Test Scores, College Choice Decisions, Video-Recorded Mock Interview
  6. Transition to College:
    Taking Authority & Responsibility, Opportunities & Risks, Resources

 

Hourly College Admissions Counseling Program

  • Hourly Rate:  $170/hr

The Prometheus Hourly Admissions Counseling Program allows you to focus on and pay for only those tasks that your student needs. The most popular topics include:

  • The college list – brainstorming and filtering
  • Mock interviews
  • Admissions essays

 

Hourly College Application Essay Counseling

  • Hourly rate: $170/hr
  • One-time Registration & Materials fee:  $40

 

The college admissions essays provide a unique opportunity for your student to differentiate himself or herself from other applicants. The essay can be instrumental in establishing why the target college will want your student.

 

Prometheus counselors have a proven, successful track record of helping college applicants to find their voices, to voice their passions, and to establish clear and distinctive arguments about why they are desirable applicants.

 

College Admissions Counseling Homework

These programs include some in-session work, homework, and several hours of follow-up work between sessions. 

”Preparations

 

In preparation for the Prometheus Full or Hourly College Admissions Counseling Programs, your student should collect and plan to bring the following (or whatever he or she can obtain):

  • Unofficial transcript: Especially, GPA, readily available from your guidance office

·        School Profile: Readily available from your guidance office

·        Naviance login/password: Readily available from your guidance office, if your school offers Naviance access

·        College Board / ACT: Logins/passwords

  • Course selections: For the next school year.
  • Tests: Full reports on any standardized testing – ERB (CPT-4), ISEE, SSAT, HSPT, PSAT, SAT, PLAN, ACT, SAT Subject, AP, etc.
  • Especially important are copies of essays on SAT and ACT tests (the colleges can see these)
  • Colleges: Information the student has gathered about colleges or college visits
  • Resume info: List of student’s activities and awards – academic, work, sports, arts, volunteering, interests, etc.

·        Common Application (www.commonapp.org): Complete as much as you can, prior to the first session

·        Universal Application (www.universalcollegeapp.com): Complete as much as you can, prior to the first session, if any of the participating colleges are on the student’s list of target colleges

·        Application forms: For target colleges

·        Application forms: For target colleges, specifically, all supplemental essay requirements

  • Computer: Your student is invited to bring a notebook computer or use our computer

o   Please let us know whether your student will bring a computer

  • Flash drive:  We recommend your student bring a flash drive (thumb drive) with the information that has been collected
